Our client needed to allow employees to work from home but lacked a VPN solution. They contacted Onix, and our staff informed them of the procedures required to swiftly and efficiently make 100 WorkSpaces available with a secure connection, eliminating the requirement for a client VPN setup. Even though this isn’t WorkSpaces’ primary function, it gave the client’s solution some more value.

Most of the networking infrastructure required to link the WorkSpaces environment to the resources users would access had already been provided for this client. Using an AWS AD Connector, our team linked the client’s on-premise Active Directory (AD) to WorkSpaces. WorkSpaces emerged as computer objects in the customer’s Active Directory when they were added to AWS.

Additionally, this strategy made it possible for current domain users to be rapidly assigned to a specific AWS Workspace using the same login information they had used to access their actual office PCs daily.

The Onix team also produced a WorkSpaces picture to give the client company’s staff a standardized desktop and a selection of pre-installed programs. A WorkSpaces bundle containing this picture was created and given to the designated users.

Users were not allowed to download company data on their home or work computers or laptops. Their work areas are totally segregated.

No matter what device a user used to access their own workspace, the desktop picture appeared to them after logging in to seem like a typical Windows 10 desktop. They had a comfortable user interface and a smooth computing experience.

How Would Amazon WorkSpaces Be Billed to Me?

For individuals who want 24/7 access and those who have employees on a predetermined schedule, AWS WorkSpaces offers two payment options.

For businesses that often run batch files, processes, and data analysis, 24/7 charging makes sense. These businesses will pay an ongoing charge.


However, there is no requirement for WorkSpaces to be accessible around-the-clock in businesses where employees maintain a regular 9 to 5 schedule. Instead, they can use an hourly charging model that enables them to set a timer and effectively put the machine into hibernation for whatever length they need. When the system is sleeping, they aren’t paying for anything. The system wakes up and restarts within minutes of a user logging in, often with all apps in the same condition as when they were last closed.

Connecting employees securely, safely, and with reasonable simplicity is crucial when remote work is fast becoming the rule rather than the exception. It can be challenging for businesses with on-premise infrastructures to swiftly transition from an office-based model to a work-from-anywhere one.
